Double/Two verbs in a sentence

We often make or find a sentence involving two verbs (or double verbs). For the beginners, it will be a big problem if they want to make such a sentence. So, in this good chance, let me share my knowledge about it.  

1. Verb + to + Verb_infinitive or Verb + Object + to + Verb _infinitive                                                  

    I.g: I decide to   go                with you today

             Verb    to  Verb_infinitive

           She asked me to   accompany    her to the hospital

                  Verb    O  to   Verb_infinitive

The following verbs require an infinitive for a verb in the complement:

-     agree	-       decide	-       hesitate	-       need	-       refuse
-     appear	-       demand	-       hope	-       offer	-       seem
-     arrange	-       deserve	-       intend	-       plan	-       tend
-     ask	-       expect	-       learn	-       prepare	-       threaten
-     claim	-       fail	-       manage	-       pretend	-       wait
-     consent	-       forget	-       mean	-       promise	-       want

  

2. . Verb + Verb_ing     or    Verb + Object + Verb_ing

    I.g: I admit  stealing  your money

             Verb    Verb_ing

           She suggested me studying  harder  for the national exam

                  Verb          O     Verb_ing

The following verbs require an –ing form for a verb in the complement:

-     admit	-     delay	-     keep	-     quit	-     stop
-     appreciate	-     deny	-     mention	-     recall	-     suggest
-     avoid	-     discuss	-     miss	-     recommend	-     tolerate
-     complete	-     enjoy	-     postpone	-     regret	-     understand
-     consider	-     finish	-     practice	-     risk	-

           NOTE: The word“forbid”  both formulas, an infinitive or an –ing complement, can be used.

EXERCISE 1
